These two tuners really put out some great sound when they are working well. I am a Noeb on this stuff, though I have had verious elecrical classes over the years. My old way was just cleaning and taking a eyeglass and searching for cracks or burns. But I need to get familiar with finding leaky pots and checking resistors. I'm sure now that three years after this post, the unit has been serviced.
But that receiver blew a 6 amp main fuse - meaning that something is seriously wrong with the receiver - merely replacing the fuse without properly troubleshooting the reason is not wise.
Because there IS a reason why fuses like that blow. My left stereo channel goes out after unit warms up. Sound still comes out in mono mode, but not stereo. Anyone know what I can do to address this problem? I realize it's been a loooooong wait I encountered the same problem n what follows was my fix!!!
I recently pulled my apart for cleaning n repairs n discovered n the power supply[AWR] a multitude of problems. Q1 was completely shorted Q4 was burned out n ZD12 was burned up as a result of [I'm guessin'] Q1 n 4. Because Q4 was burned out, all the current from Q2 was flowin thru R16 causing it to always run hot n eventually burn out.
When I got the unit 'bout 15 years ago, it was burned out n ZD12 was the culprit. Check your voltages from pins 13, 14 n 15, if they're running excessively high then your problem lies in Q2 n Theses old transistors have a tendency to go bad after 40 years or so anyhow. Check that the red wire is connected to the contact power supply and the yellow wire to the constant power supply. How can I best clean my Car Radio? A slightly damp cleaning cloth or soft, dust-free cloth works best to remove fingerprints.
