Sounds like the malware damaged your windows installation. Have you ever had multiple monitors set up on that computer? It sounds like the Taskbar may have been moved to a monitor that is no longer connected. If you see the Multiple Displays options there, select the drop down menu and click the Show Desktop only on 1 option.

The taskbar was missing and whenever i ran start explorer. THEN run start explorer. This should make your taskbar appear again. This happened to be — the taskbar disappeared on an Alienware Windows 8 computer a week after I got it when an automatic update was made. I simply went to the white desktop button at the bottom left of the computer screen, clicked it once.
When the Windows screen came up that lists all the programs and apps, I went to the icon that looks like a little magnifying glass the search tool and wrote: explorer. The screen turned green, then my taskbar reappeared. I had this issue when I installed a dual monitor video card in my Optiplex I fixed it by changing the 4th entry in the screen resolution dialogue for Multiple Displays so that it had the Show desktop only on 1 selected.
This worked! I was so relieved when I realized, all I had done was accidentally closed out the program on task manager when I was trying to kill an unresponsive page. I tried to no avail, all the above. But when I restarted the laptop and her login came up I noticed her user name and the change user button. So having clicked her user name before and the task bar was still missing I decided to hit the change user button and low and behold her desktop came up task bar, start menu and all.
I restarded windows explorer and it just came back with the things that were pinned to it still pinned to it. Windows Explorer in Win 10 Pro hung. I opened task manager and ended it with the intention of running it manually, but the Start button and task bar disappeared. No way to run Explorer manually came to mind. I can only see my task bar when the wallpaper is the background. When I pull up my e-mail or anything it covers it up. I use to be able to see while on line or checking my e-mail. Can you help please? All of minimized windows disappear and there is no way to get them back onto the task bar. My Task Bar is non existant. Virus scan found numerous trojan horse progs. My taskbar was hidden as well. Uncheck the extend windows desktop to this monitor , click apply, and my taskbar jumped right back onto my main monitorl.

I have my pc linked to my tv as a second monitor and my task bar is showing on there? I also have a machine that displays no taskbar, not even a double-arrow cursor on any edge where a taskbar might be. I can only get to Control Panel from a Windows Explorer desktop icon. Update: I found that the video card on the problem system supports multiple monitors and that a second monitor was enabled.
