X files modern day prometheus

It's a harmless fairy tale, that makes for good escapist fun. Too many ingredients rlaine 13 October This one has so far been the worst x-files episode I've seen. I had to come and see if people shared this view, but I seem to be in minority here. Or maybe those who didn't like this just didn't come and vote and comment. While it is kind of funny and at times works as a homage, I feel it just mixes too many genres.

At first it seems as if it's happening in the 50's, then you get 80's slasher and after that you are in the 90's. This goes on for the whole duration, once in a while visiting a cartoon world. Same thing with music, there's carnival music, Cher hits and the usual x-files stuff. It would've been great if they just had stayed in the noirish style as the visuals were pretty nice. DIdn't necessarily need so many lightnings either..

The story wasn't that good either. I was somewhat confused who was the father of who in the end. Then there is the rape issue, I completely agree with the others writing about it, you are a monster if you sedate and rape someone, no matter how cartoony it is. I watched and liked some of the first seasons when they originally aired and have now been watching the whole series on DVD starting from beginning, it's been great so far, but I wouldn't be surprised if this was the point where I lost interest originally.

At the end of season 4 the story got pretty heavy and very focused on Scullys cancer and Mulders problems. This went on for many episodes and during last 7 episodes there has been only one "real" x-files episode "Detour", which wasn't amazing either. Also a lot of stuff was revealed in a few episodes that I'd rather had kept untold. I'm really hoping that the show will get better, as I've already bought all DVD boxes up to season 7.

But after all the rant, it does have it's moments and there are a few clever details, so it's not completely bad. X-files is always X-files, and so far even a bad episode has been a good watch.

I recently re-watched this Chris Carter' the "creator", not the wide-receiver directed masterful homage to "Frankenstein" with his commentary on, and it is an all-time TV classic.

I'd already seen it two or three times in it's original form, and it was fun to watch it again with the back-story. I'm not going to give too much away, but if you've seen any of the "Frankenstein" movies in any form produced in the last seventy-five years, you'll know what's coming. Watch for the eccentric "chicken-lady" reporter, the lady with the eyes way too far apart, and of course "J. Peterman" delivering his lines as only he can.

And when the "Mutato" gets front row seats at the Cher show, cutting loose with overheard fists to the sky, you'll feel better about mankind than you have in weeks. Carter claims the Emmy review board questioned his "substance-intake" after viewing this one, but I'm going to question theirs for denying him whatever award in which he was nominated for this episode.

Post Modern Prometheus is possibly the most overrated X-Files episode in my humble opinion. I really loathe this entry of a wonderful show. At its best The X-Files is amazing at blending drama, sci-fi, comedy, fantasy, and pop culture references into a seamless tapestry. Post Modern Prometheus falls flat in that regard; some interesting ideas are presented but they never coalesce. The story itself, which included man meddling in God's domain, employed rape as a central plot element which is impossible to justify and damages much potential enjoyment of the episode.

As if that wasn't enough the show really goes off the rails into lunacy during the final 10 minutes and ends in a bizarre denouement with the "monster" of the piece attending a Cher concert. Maybe I just cannot capture the magic of Post Modern Prometheus that most fans have latched onto but, to me, this is just a mess of an episode and easily one of the worst.

A really funny and promising first half leads into a poorly paced second half and an entertainingly muddled, silly and unsatisfying ending.

Great direction and photography throughout. Wish it had serviced a better episode. Wasn't nominated for seven Emmys because it stinks. Watch and judge for yourself. Fantastic episode it's probably the best of the whole series and the last scenes are worth waiting for if only to watch Scully and Moulder slow dance together it's wonderful.

Get yr head out of yr rear sphincter and realize this is just a one-off fairy tale. This has nothing to do with the other episodes in the series, so why did Chris Carter put it on this show? ALL the actors are perfectly cast, even the drag queen "Cher" at the end.

And that ending, well, I had a major grin and tears streaming down my face. Way to go Mr. In college I had to read Gothic horror Mary Shelly's book is very short, but has the mood. Funny to see all those unknown actors be so intense.

They are ALL good!!! You know when you sit alone in your dark room, and think that nobody must like you, because of what a horrible monster you are? Then you have an idea what to think about this episode. But if not, then while feeling slightly nauseous, all you can think is: Who writes this crap?!

Chris Carter. Storyline Edit. Mulder and Scully travel to a small town after Mulder receives a letter asking for his help in solving a mystery. The townsfolk believe there is a Frankenstein-type monster living in the woods and many claim to have seen him. One of the locals has even created a comic book on the creature, which he's called the Great Mutato.

Scully of course thinks it's all nonsense but soon changes her mind when they see what appears to be a hideously deformed man in the woods.

The episode is filmed in black and white. Add content advisory. Did you know Edit. Trivia An ad lib by David Duchovny was cut from the final version. After the waitress at J. The University of Ingolstadt, where Dr Pollidori is to deliver his lecture, was disbanded in The university is frequently mentioned in The Illuminatus! Mulder and Scully were originally supposed to kiss as they dance at the end of this episode.

However, Chris Carter thought it was too much, so he cut it. Doctor Pollidori shows Mulder and Scully the image of a fruit fly with legs growing out of its mouth, claiming that he created the mutant by genetic manipulation. In actual fact, it is a random mutation that does occur in nature without human intervention. Another type, Antennapedia , has legs growing where antenna should be.

There are many similar variations. The role of Cher was written for Cher herself, a major X-Files fan. She declined at the time as she thought that her appearance would be a bit tacky. She regretted this decision after viewing the episode when it aired.

An ad lib by David Duchovny was cut from the final version. After the waitress at J. Now my crotch is going to be up all night! The role of Shaineh Berkowitz was originally written for, and offered to, comedienne and actress Roseanne but she turned down the offer. This episode was filmed between the 'Emily' 2 parter because David Duchovny was scheduled to be away from Vancouver while promoting his movie Playing God.

Shaineh Berkowitz was probably named after the serial killer David Berkowitz. Shortly after his arrest in August , Berkowitz confessed to killing six people and wounding seven others in the course of eight shootings in New York between and ; he has been imprisoned for these crimes since Berkowitz subsequently claimed that he was commanded to kill by a demon who possessed his neighbor's dog.

Given the Frankenstein allusions throughout, it's also an obvious reference to the famous film directed by James Whale, in which Dr Frankenstein, on seeing his creation come to life, exclaims 'It's Alive! Mutato watches the movie Mask starring Cher. It is also another reference to Frankenstein, where the monster studied and related to John Milton's Paradise Lost, Mutato here can relate to the boy in the movie.

Frankenstein Dr. Pollidori had to leave so he could deliver an address at the University of Ingolstadt. The Ingolstadt University is the institution where medical student Victor Frankenstein first had the idea of 'creating' a human.

Youth from this group are bullied, and their actions are covered up by the adults in the community. This indicates the rural population will be resistant to our invasion and mistrustful of our disguise as Google Car operators coming to document the community.

This may require a slight change of plans. Note to self: Does Bing have cars? While we see that rural Americans are dangerous and secretive, the good news is that as a whole they are even less intelligent than their urban peers.

X-Files tells us that for the most part, rural Americans are intellectually inferior and unsophisticated. The inbred family in Home are feeble minded, and the characters in Modern Day Prometheus share a mob mentality and are incapable of critical thinking.

Local defense and law enforcement ranges from simply inept to openly hostile. They often work to cover up the very misdoings that agents Mulder and Scully are investigating.
